BSYTC is the brilliant youth theatre company that came into being to commemorate the life of Jo Cox MP, and which brought a West End quality production of Les Misérables to Batley in 2017.

Summer School will be a unique opportunity to join a group of young people exploring all aspects of the performing arts and musical theatre. Led by experienced professional tutors, you can learn about performance techniques as well as backstage and production.

Classes will include:

  • Tuesday 4 August, 7pm: Building a Character with Jason Marc-Williams
  • Tuesday 11 August, 7pm: Movement for Actors with Luke Ganz
  • Tuesday 18 August, 7pm: Storytelling with Tom Myles
  • Tuesday 25 August, 7pm: Puppetry with Hilary Statts
  • Tuesday 1 September, 7pm: Shakespeare with Alice White
  • Tuesday 8 September, 7pm: Acting for Screen with Michelle McTernan
  • Tuesday 15 September, 7pm: Auditioning and Finding the Right Speech with Viv Buckley
  • Tuesday 22 September, 7-8pm: Industry Q&A for Performers with Nick Evans and Guests
  • Tuesday 22 September, 8.15-9.15pm: Industry Q&A for Production with Nick Evans and Guests

Each session will run for approximately 90 minutes.

Where do i sign up?

Places are open to young people from North Kirklees, aged 13-20, and are free, but limited, and you will need to register here.

If you are under 16, a parent or guardian will need to fill in the form for you.

about the summer school classes

All classes will be held on a password protected Zoom session, recorded for safeguarding and documentation purposes and will be hosted by a professional youth arts worker.

If you’re under 16, your parent/guardian will receive the log-in details of the Zoom session on your behalf.
